Merry Jane Dinsmore died February 26, 1995, in Hydesville at age 86. She was a native of Humboldt County and had been a resident of Hydesville for75 years.

Merry Jane was born in Hydesville on September 3, 1908. She spent her early years at her parent's homestead at Charles Mountain near Blocksvurg. She was a graduate of Hydesville Grammar School and Fortuna Union High School, class of 1927. In 1932, Merry Jane graduated from the University of San Francisco and the Mount Zion School of Nursing. Upon returning to Hydesville, she worked for various local doctors, includingthe late Dr. Comfort and Dr. Kramer.

In 1935, she married Douglas T. Dinsmore and moved to Willow Creek where she worked as a volunteer for the American Red Cross, maintaining an emergency first aid station. This facility was the first medical clinic located in the Lower Trinity area. Minor surgeries, baby deliveries and children's clinics were held at the ranch house on China Flat near Willow Creek and Salyer. In 1939, Merry Jane went to work for the Bureau of Indian Affairs as a registered nurse at the old Hupa Hospital located near Supply Creek. Moving back to Hydesville in 1941, she went to work for the Pacific Lumber Co. at the Scotia Hospital serving as superintendent of nurses until retiring in 1950.

Merry Jane loved the outdoors and spent much of her life traveling and raising flowers, vegetables, trees and flowering shrubs. She was well known for her knowledge and interest in antique collecting, researching history and genealogy. She was a member of the pioneer families of Rowley, Spesert and Lipscolmb who settled in the Fortuna, Hydesville, Blocksburg and Showers Pass-Fort Baker areas in the early days. Merry Jane was a direct descendant of Edward and Anne Fuller who were pilgrims on the Mayflower from England to the New World in 1620. Her grandfather, James Rowley, was a veteran of the Civil War. Merry Jane was an active member of the Carlotta Women's Club, Relic Accumulators, Humboldt Historical Society, Redwood Genealogy Society and the Board of Registered Nurses.

Mrs. Dinsmore is survived by a sister and her husband, Joy and JackRisling of Eureka; a brother and his wife, Maxwell and Nita Rowley ofWillow Creek; seven nephews and their families, Jim Rowley, Marc Rowley,Wade Rowley, Ross Rowley, Blair Rowley, Larry Risling and Bill Risling; aniece, Wanda Orr and her family; and numerous grandnephews, grandniecesand cousins. She is also survived by her special friends, Doril McCall,Virginia Sparks, Gladys Smith, Marlyn Wright, John and Connie Cooke, Ronand Judy Klein, Jay and Lenora Dinsmore, Belva Bravo, Don Filby, LillianFilby, Dorothy Gaby and Ellen Caples.

Merry Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas T. Dinsmore; herparents, Henry and Mary Rowley; and a brother, Edwin (Pooch) Rowley.

Friends are invited to attend services at Goble's Chapel in Fortuna onThursday, March 2, 1995, at 2 p.m. Pastor Mike Delamarian willofficiate.

Concluding services will be at the Hydesville 100F Cemetery inHydesville. Casketbearers will be Larry Risling, Bill Risling, MarcRowley, Wade Rowley, Ross Rowley and Blair Rowley.

     Douglas True Dinsmore was born on 29 January 1904 at Alton, Humboldt County, California, USA.^1,2 He married Merry Jane Rowley, daughter of Henry Lewis Rowley and Mary Jane Spesert, in 1935.^3,4 Douglas True Dinsmore completed 2 years of college on 31 October 1942.⁴ He began military service on 31 October 1942 at San Francisco, San Francisco County, California, USA,, Branch: Air Corps, Grade: Private, Term of Enlistment: Enlistment for the duration of the War or other emergency, plus six months, subject to the discretion of the President or otherwise according to law.⁴ He died on 9 December 1991 at Fortuna, Humboldt County, California, USA, at age 87.^1,2

      Ernest H Lorensen was also known as Larry Cornelius. Julie Reed: "His mother told me herself that his name was Larry Cornelius Lorensen. It's possible that since the baby was still-born and they were upset at the time that the hospital took it upon themselves to say his name was the same as his father. I am assuming that his mother would have known what they wanted to name him so I will stick with Larry Cornelius."³ He was born on 10 July 1942 at Eureka, Humboldt County, California, USA.^1,2 He died on 10 July 1942 at Eureka, Humboldt County, California, USA.² He was the son of Ernest Harold Lorensen and Zona Ernestine Garcelon^2,1 and was buried on 12 July 1942 at Eureka, Humboldt County, California, USA.²

     Elva Elizabeth Asbell was born on 1 January 1914 at Redding, Shasta County, California, USA.^2,1 She married Keith Rodney Garcelon, son of Robert Lyle Garcelon and Myrtle Chapman, on 26 November 1971 at Reno, Washoe County, Nevada, USA.^3,4 Elva Elizabeth Asbell died on 26 April 1986 at Eureka, Humboldt County, California, USA, at age 72.¹

     Lois Steinmetz married Mervyn Elliott Armstrong on 11 August 1923.¹ Lois Steinmetz and Mervyn Elliott Armstrong were divorced before 1 April 1930.²

     Gwen Roger Imus was born on 1 September 1923 at Wyoming, USA.^2,3,4 He was single on 20 January 1943.³ He began military service on 20 January 1943 at San Francisco, San Francisco County, California, USA.³ He married Dorothy Marie Armstrong, daughter of Mervyn Elliott Armstrong and Lois Steinmetz, on 10 June 1945.^5,1 Gwen Roger Imus lived on 6 September 2010 at Gold Hill, Jackson County, Oregon, USA.² He died on 6 September 2010 at age 87.²
