Botsford: "From amongst the citizens of Brockville who are reaching into advancing years a well known figure will be missed. Reference is made to Mr. Charles W. Botsford, of this town, who passed away last evening about nine o'clock at St. Vincent de Paul Hospital, after a brief illness. It was only a week ago that the deceased was taken seriously ill and removed to the hospital. From a severe cold, bronchial pneumonia developed, and in spite of all efforts to check the trouble, Mr. Botsford grew gradually worse until yesterday afternoon when hope was abandoned. Much sympathy is being expressed for Mrs. Botsford, who has herself been an invalid for the past six weeks, and also for the other members of the family.
The subject of this sketch was born at Belleville, August 25, 1841, and was therefore in his 71st year. His parents were the late Warren Botsford and Britannia Billings, who moved to Perth and subsequently to Brockville. The first business experience of Mr. Botsford was with his father, who more than half a century ago conducted a general store in what is now the Central block. After this he became accountant for Smart & Shepherd and on that firm retiring from business he served in a similar capacity with the late firm of McHenry Bros. For the past eight years he has conducted a grocery business for himself on Pearl street. Besides Mrs. Botsford the following members of his family survive : Mrs. D. W. Wilkinson, Mr. J. H. Botsford, of the legal firm of Buell & Botsford, Brockville; Charles A., principal of Sherbrooke Business College, Sherbrooke, Que., and Lawrence M., of Detroit, Mich. One brother, William R. of Brooklyn, N.Y., and one sister, Mrs. Wm. Wilson, of Cleveland, also survive.
In politics the late Mr. Botsford was a strong adherent of Liberal principles."5 and was buried at Brockville, Leeds County, Ontario, Canada.2
