Solomon Wood Jr was born circa 1810.4 He was the son of Solomon Wood and Anna Lakins.1 Solomon Wood Jr married Roxanne Kilborn, daughter of Hiram Kilborn and Sarah Billings, on 12 November 1833 at Brockville, Leeds County, Upper Canada, Canada.5,2,1 Solomon Wood Jr may have been the man who married Mary Elizabeth Lowery on 26 November 1844 at Houston, Harris County, Texas, USA. Solomon is supposed to have died in Texas (from an interview with his friend and fellow teacher Anson Cummings in an old Brockville paper and reprinted in a L&G newsletter some years ago).6,7 "Chief Provost is in receipt of a letter from Mrs. A. E. Ratigan, 419 Cleveland avenue, Fort Worth, Texas, who is anxious to locate some of her relatives. "Please see if there is an old settler in Ottawa by the name of Wood, who lived there when Ottawa was called Bytown," the letter reads. "This Mr. Wood had several sons, one of whom emigrated to Houston, Texas and married my mother in 1844. "Their two children, now 59 and 57 years old, are anxious to find out something in regard to their relatives. Solomon Wood, jr., was a physician and went as such with a party out to Mexico in 1849, when the gold fever was raging. "His wife supported and educated his son and daughter, but the doctor (my father) never came hone, although he wrote frequently, giving first one excuse, then another for twelve years, After the civil war in the United States we never heard any more from him. "My mother died of a broken heart when only 37 years of age," the letter concludes."7 This Solomon Wood Jr died after 1869 at Mexico.7
