Speaker Biographies

Bruce Elliott:
Bruce is a Professor of History at Carleton University and director of the Carleton Centre for the History of Migration. He is the author of Irish Migrants in the Canadas, and of The McCabe List: Early Irish in the Ottawa Valley. He has also written two books and numerous articles on the history of the Ottawa Valley. He is a former chair of Ottawa Branch.

Sylvie Tremblay:
Sylvie was born in Quebec City. She has a B.A. in History and a certificate in archival studies from Laval University. Since 1978, she has been a genealogy addict. She has published many articles, genealogical studies and marriage repertoires. Presently, she is the genealogist for the Association des Tremblay d'Amérique, the largest French-Canadian family in North America.

Glenn Wright:
Glenn is a historian with Library and Archives Canada and is author of numerous publications including: Winning the second battle: Canadian veterans and the return to civilian life, 1915-1930, with Desmond Morton; and most recently The Caroline and her passengers: March-May, 1832 published by the Wellington County Branch of OGS.

Lyall Manson:
Lyall was born in Cornwall, Ontario and grew up in the "Lost Village" of Mille Roches. He attended Ottawa Teachers' College. He taught for over 34 years with the Cornwall Public School Board and the SD&G County Bd. of Education. An interest in history led to a long association with the SD&G Historical Society and the SD&G Genealogical Society.

Betty Burrows:
Betty is a retired elementary schoolteacher who has been researching her family trees since her retirement. She has used Family Tree Maker exclusively to publish eight books about her family's ancestors, distributing them to family members and historical societies.

Doug Hoddinott:
Doug is a member of the Ottawa Branch. He is currently Director, Membership for the British Isles Family History Society of Greater Ottawa. He has organized Computer Research and Demonstration Rooms for Gene-O-Rama and BIFHSGO.

Shaun Wallace:
Shaun attended Brock University. His enthusiasm for Canadian history has lead him down many interesting roads, from the restoration of an 1850's home to the founding of the Morrisburg & District Historical Society. Shaun has been a military re-enactor with the Museum of Applied Military History since 2000.
