Our mission is to encourage, assist, and bring together all those interested in the pursuit of family history.
The Ottawa Branch covers the counties of Carleton, Lanark, Renfrew, Prescott and Russell.

 
 

Special Interest Groups

The Ottawa Branch supports several special interest groups which meet monthly. Members meet in small groups and discuss their family history interests. Groups presently organized include: the Genealogy Computer Group and the Irish Research Group.

The Genealogy Computer Special Interest Group(CSIG) Discussions include the use of the computer in helping to search your roots.

The CSIG meets at room 154, Library and Archives Canada, 395 Wellington St. (same location as monthly meetings).

NOTE Changed times

The Irish Research Group meets at the McNabb Community Centre, 180 Percy St. or room 156, Library and Archives Canada, 395 Wellington St. (same location as monthly meetings) on the 4th Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. Discussions include how and where to search your Irish roots and compiling information about Irish surnames in the Ottawa and outlying areas.

Ottawa TMG User's Group
The Ottawa TMG Users Group has been started in Ottawa. This self-help group focuses on The Master Genealogist (TMG), a genealogy database program sold by Wholly Genes, Inc. The group is affiliated with the British Isles Family History Society of Greater Ottawa (BIFHSGO), but participation is open to everyone. For complete information, see this web site.
